“When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, ‘Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.’” (John 1:47 NIV)

The Church is in the crucible right now but we know that God is good even when we have to suffer evil. It is clear by now that the Church was maliciously infiltrated. Quite clearly, the source of this evil is the father of deception and lies. At a more earthly level, we have known for some time that in the first half of the 20th century, the Soviets began to plant agents in the Church aiming at destroying her from inside. Among others, we know this through Bella Dodd, a labor union activist who was expelled from the Communist Party in 1949 and eventually converted to the Catholic faith.

Dodd declared that the operation began in the 1930s when about eleven hundred men were infiltrated into various seminaries. The plan was to get those men ordained and moved up to influential positions in the hierarchy. By the early 1950’s some of those infiltrated had already been created cardinals. The plan succeeded beyond their wildest dreams. (School of Darkness, Bella Dodd, Jerome Library Press)

Another Communist defector, Ion Mihai Pacepa, who served as a high ranking officer in the Romanian secret police, revealed something quite surprising although not truly shocking: a high level Russian advisor to the Romanian Intelligence Service was the “designer” of the Theology of Liberation. Pacepa also reveals that the plan was not limited to the Catholic Church but included other Christian organizations. (Former Soviet spy: We created Liberation Theology, Catholic News Agency, May 1, 2015)

Two important books shed light on other plans to corrupt the Church: Good Bye Good Men – How Liberals Brought Corruption into the Catholic Church, by Michael S. Rose (Regnery Publishing, 2002) and The Homosexual Network: Private Lives and Public Policy, by Enrique T. Rueda. (Devin Adair Co., 1982) This last book documents the influence of homosexual ideology in the Catholic Church and other organizations. Those who were aware of the revelations of Dodd, Rueda, Rose, and others were not taken by surprise when the current crisis emerged.

It is easy to see now that those infiltrated agents deceitfully introduced certain beliefs among Catholics to weaken their faith. One of the first was a false ecumenism, a concept opposed to the teaching of a Catholic communion in one body. That was quickly followed by universalism, negating the Catholic teaching of no salvation outside the Church. That was followed logically by indifferentism, the belief that all religions are valid in spite the apostolic affirmation that “there is One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all,” the apostolic teaching of the Church from the beginning. (Ephesians 4:5-6) Finally, sexual immorality spread among the clergy to the extent that now it is in plain view. There are some in the hierarchy who think that “sins below the belt” are not that important. Why then did Our Lady of Fatima tell little Jacinta that sins of the flesh send more souls to Hell than any other? There we see another false belief resulting from the Sexual Revolution. Sins of the flesh may appear less serious but they are directly or indirectly affecting the life of every individual. Presently, we are all forced to live in a hyper-sexualized world, a sort of global Sodom. Losing one’s soul because of a “not so important” sin, even if almost “everyone else” does it, is a rather poor consolation for ending in Hell. The sadly depraved life history of a recently defrocked Cardinal shows us how, once established, these false beliefs were used by cynical infiltrators in their quest for increased ecclesiastical power.

It is obvious that these corrupt individuals are in control of large swaths of the Catholic Church right now, perhaps including the Roman curia. The abomination of clerical sexual abuse has revealed the cynical duplicity of those who have wasted nearly two decades producing partial solutions, ineffective documents and “procedures” that do nothing but demonstrate the ineptitude of our episcopate. The hearts of the foxes are not exactly interested in fixing the holes in the chicken coop’s fence.

Finally, we must realize that those who spent almost one century working to gain such influence are not going to repent and march to the desert to live a life of prayer and penance. How do we know for sure if those are not unbelievers like Marcial Maciel, who reportedly rejected the last rites adamantly in his deathbed? It is obvious that this gigantic problem can only be solved by supernatural intervention. God continues to be in control and will act at the right time to save his Church. He has allowed this to develop for our instruction and purification.

We have much work to do besides engaging in intense penance and prayer. It does not take a mathematician to figure out that a depleted number of loyal priests cannot properly form billions of poorly catechized Catholics. Gerhard Cardinal Müller told us recently that “Today, many Christians are no longer even aware of the basic teachings of the Faith, so there is a growing danger of missing the path to eternal life.” The infiltrators took advantage of our bad formation to swindle the faithful. It also shows the extent of their destructive work: few seem to know the faith well. We all have to get involved in learning the truth and help teaching it to others. “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.” (Matthew 12:30) It is imperative for the good of the Church and for the salvation of our souls that Christ finds us gathering.

“Do not those who plot evil go astray? But those who plan what is good find love and faithfulness.” (Proverbs 14:22 NIV)
